Portfolio

I haven't really thought of what I want in my final portfolio. All I know is that the theme of it would be related to things that I am interested in. For example: Music, computers, travel, internet and my personal favourite. trains and railways.

I'd probably put little flash animations, pictures, sounds and video clips, but at them monent, I am unsure.

FlyingPuppet.com

I went and had a look at a website called www.flyingpuppet.com. There were heps of interesting works, however, the work that I liked the most was called 'Trauma' by Nicolas Clauss. It was a basic flash project divided into four squares. As I moved my cursor over these four squares, different sounds could be heard, for example: cats meowing, and someone playing a flute. Then four different movies started playing. These movies depicted a guy sitting in a train doing wierd things to what looked like a briefcase. Probably because he was bored on the way home from work. Also in this section, it seemed like I had to try and sync up the different sounds to create some sort of song.

It reminded me of an interactive piece that I completed in another subject last year. However, this other project was divided into 9 squares and showed activities that people would do if they suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The object of the project was to sync up the different sounds, but no matter how hard the user tried, they couldn't do it as one of the loops was out of sync, making it impossible to sync up the sounds.

I liked this piece of work as it interested me, mainly because of the guy sitting in the train trying to play music on his briefcase. Also, I liked the different sounds that the artist used to create a surreal and ambient environment.

Project Idea

The idea for my project is related to music (both listening to and playing), which is one of my favourite hobbies. To show this, I will be creating a basic project in Flash that will talk about the history of my musical abillity, interest and experience, right up until the present and beyond to what the future holds.

The project will show a picture of something that relates to music (in this case, it will be a picture of my saxophone). On my saxophone, I will have buttons that link to text that talks about a specific area of my musical history. When each button is pressed, the text will change and pop up in different areas.

Flash 8 Tutorials

This weeks task was to complete one of the many flash tutorials at www.kirupa.com. The tutorial that I chose to complete was how to use Gradient art in a project. Due to my limited knowledge and experience on how to use flash, I picked this particular tutorial because it refreshed my memory on using the different tools and also introduced me to new techniques.

The finished product was that of a Mac OS X style wallpaper. These various tutorials are useful for all users of flash, wether it be a complete novice, an experienced user or someone who needs to improve and enhance their skills.
